Kids in the City

Downtown Tauranga proudly brought you Kids in the City in the July school holidays.  We had a great time with the Cash Cube with over 230 kids winning cash and prizes over the week.  Art classes at the Art Gallery were sold out and the library was inundated with enthusiastic kids eager to hear a story.  We would like to thank everyone that took part in Kids in the City and hope that you all enjoyed yourself as much as we did.  It was awesome!  We met some great kids many of who travelled on teh Bay Hopper bus for the first time to get to the City and really enjoyed the experience

So we would like to thank Environment Bay of Plenty with their support with the free bus passes and to all of our sponsors who dontated prizes for the cash cube and all of the Downtown Tauranga businesses who funded Kids in the City.

We would also like to congratulate the following classes who participated in the school class competitions and won prizes;

First Prize:    Room 5 Greenpark School

They won a bus trip into the City Centre to have lunch with Mayor Stuart Crosby, free movie tickets for every class member and a goody bag to take home.

Second Prize:   Room 9, Welcome Bay School

Third Prize:   Room 10 Welcome Bay School

Fourth Prize:   Room 2 Mount Primary

Fifth Prize:   Room 7 Welcome Bay School

Second to Fifth places won a $200 Whitcoulls voucher for the teacher.

Downtown Tauranga Car Giveaway

Ever wondered what it would be like to win a brand new car right before Christmas?

Well 83 lucky people had the chance to know on 19 Saturday December when the FINAL Draw of the Downtown Tauranga Car Giveaway was underway. We had a hugh crowd in the Mid City Mall to find out who would be the lucky winner of the brand new Suzuki Swift. Shopping was never more rewarding than on that Saturday as we gave away another 17 daily prizes donated by the local business.

At 1.30pm Kirby Weis from Downtown Tauranga and Vinnie from 93.4 More FM started to narrow down the 83 daily prize winners to the lucky 10 who were given a car key. Then one by one they walked down to the Suzuki Swift and tried to start the car with their key. Five turned out to be the lucky number, with Karen Summersby and her lucky duck, the fifth person to try her key, getting a very big early Christmas present as she turned her key, stopped and looked at Kirby, as he told her to start the car Karen.

Karen was so excited and happy that she couldn't stop shaking with joy. Her supprt crew of Anne, Robin and David could be heard screaming for joy as well. It was a great way to finish off the very successful Downtown Tauranga Car Giveaway for 2009.

Karen's winning receipt was a $27.95 purchase from Paper Plus in Grey St, that was drawn on 17 Thursday December, just two days before the FINAL DRAW, but she assured us she had been doing all her shopping in Downtown Tauranga putting in every receipt she had.  

"I have never won anything major. I am so happy, its fanastic, I'm shaking with joy. I just figured you've got to be in to win so I was putting all my receipts. Thought I am sure having my lucky yellow duck with me made the difference," said a very happy winner Karen Summersby.
